Dadamac - a genuinely 21st century organisation
Dadamac is a bit like a dating agency. We introduce people/organisations and help them collaborate, despite physical distance and cultural differences. The Internet is not an "add-on" for us - we could not exist without it. We are based in UK and in Africa. Dadamac grows organically - so what you bring will influence how we develop. We intend to provide an efficient, cost-effective alternative to 20th century "top -down" models of "development". Our assets include a direct communication channel that is way ahead of the norm for rural Africa, a tremendous person-to-person grassroots network, and enormous social capital. Thanks to our use of the Internet and high-trust relationships we offer genuine two-way exchanges of knowledge and ideas between people at the grass-roots and people who are policy makers, funding agents, volunteers, philanthropists, researchers, entrepreneurs and so on. We also have places and people to run projects on the ground. We need help to become visible. Dadamac's track record is based on voluntary effort - but when we do get paid work we'll build our team from people we know and trust. Meanwhile there is interesting, worthwhile stuff to be done at Dadamac (in Beckenham or online) and you can practice your skills, showcase your talents, and network. People - self-starters with ICT skills.

AhíNamá! Festivalito of Contemporary Cuban Documentaries
AhíNamá! Festival of Contemporary Cuban Documentaries has been set up to raise funds and awareness for the group CanalDocumental TV, which serves as a vital online point of distribution for independent, documentary filmmakers, either from Cuba, or making shorts about Cuba. It takes place at select venues across London from 8th-10th October 09. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, Cuba entered a period of devastating scarcity known as the "Special Period". Naturally this scarcity affected all aspects of life on the island and the film industry was no exception. Since 1990, young, independent filmmakers had to make films in new ways - both materially and ideologically - in order to embrace the transitions on the island. This has lead to some extremely innovative filmmaking that has documented these times of transition in Cuba. The festival celebrates Cuban culture, documentary filmmaking and resourcefulness. 7pm-11.30pm: Thursday 8th Oct.09 at El Commandante: 10 Annette Rd, Holloway, London, N7 6ET 6.30pm - 8.30pm: Friday 9th Oct.09 at Ronnie's Bar, Ronnie Scott's, 42 Frith Street, Soho, London, W1D 1HT 7pm - 11.30pm: Saturday 10th Oct.09 at The Regent, 201 Liverpool Rd, Islington, London, N1 1LX We need: translators/ Subtitle editors: networking: can anyone get us free printing by any chance?! A Local, Peer to Peer Currency and trading scheme, that could be set up on an as needed basis. The currency would be established within a group at times of cash flow shortage, assembled on an ad-hoc basis, but within an agreed framework that the project provides. The idea is that this allows trades to be established within peer groups where needs + wants are present, but monetary capacity is not. The currency would be de-established once all trades are complete, or after a set time limit. The project seeks to establish a framework, and a test currency that can be used as a template for other networks. TBC, People
